It's now clear that Disney World is not done with expanding after the opening of the Magic Kingdom's New Fantasyland and the Art of Animation Resort!
It seems that news about a new addition or expansion or opportunity pops up every week; and from what we have seen so far, Disney World is becoming bigger and better and more magical all the time! Here's a look at a few of the new projects and additions in the works so you can see just why we're so excited about what's happening at WDW!
Festival of Fantasy Parade-This new daytime parade is coming to the Magic Kingdom next year, featuring some pretty spectacular floats! Characters from Tangled, as you can see, will have their own float, along with characters from Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid, and Brave!
Star Wars Land-At this year's D23 Expo, Imagineers hinted at a coming Star Wars expansion to the parks, most likely Hollywood Studios. Rumors about further Star Wars additions have been circulating from quite some time; but the mysterious crates labeled "Orange Harvest," a subtle nod to Florida and the old working title for Return of the Jedi, let us know that Disney is most definitely working on something for us Star Wars fans!
Grand Floridian Villas-Already approaching completion, the Grand Floridian has joined other deluxe resorts to add a new wing designated for the Disney Vacation Club; and you really can't go wrong with more Grand Floridian luxury and elegance, can you? The rooms at this DVC wing are to be high tech and specializing in elegance and comfort; and the new mini-lobby looks to be a success, especially with its Mary Poppins fountain! The latest news is that the Polynesian will be next to add DVC Villas which is sure to make all of the Poly fans out there rejoice!
Frozen-Disney newest animated film looks like it's going to be another hit! From trailers and previews, the animation appears to be stunning, the story funny and dramatic, and the soundtrack is already gaining attention! Look for Frozen characters to appear at Epcot's Norway pavilion next month!
Avatar Land-We have known for awhile that Disney's Animal Kingdom was to gain an Avatar inspired land; and now, Disney has released more information and some incredible concept art. It looks as if Animal Kingdom will have a version of the film's stunning Hallelujah Mountains, a nighttime boat ride through the world's wild, fluorescent forest, a ride that will somehow let us experience flight aboard a Banshee, and more! Plus, Animal Kingdom will be open at night and will feature a new show and a nighttime version of Kilimanjaro Safaris! Hopefully these new additions will breathe some much-needed life into Disney's Animal Kingdom.
Lord of the Rings Rumor-Yes, this is a rumor; but we are so hoping that it will turn out to be true! From what we have heard, Disney is talking with Warner Brothers about bringing the Lord of the Rings Franchise to WDW! Can you just imagine the possibilities? Hobbiton, The Lonely Mountain, Minas Tirith, Rivendell... Hopefully we will hear something more on this topic soon; but for now, you can read all about it here!
So now do you see why we are so excited about what's coming to WDW? The next few years are sure to promise more openings and new experiences!
Today is the day for Walt Disney World's Monstrous Summer All-Nighter
, part of Disney's Monstrous Summer Celebration! This means that Disney World's Magic Kingdom will be open for a full 24 hours today enabling guests to experience more Disney magic in one day than ever before.
Today's special event will be marked with special merchandise, sweet treats, dance parties, parades, and more! Can't be there in person? No problem! DisneyStore.com is selling commemorative t-shirts
for this event online; and you can also follow Chip&Co's Instagram
for updated pics from today's event all day long!
Still want more? You can see more of this morning's activities and the special merchandise here
; and check out the Disney Parks Blog livestream
of today's special event!
Looks like today's event is off to a monstrously great start! Do you wish you were there? What would you do if you had 24 hours to spend at the Magic Kingdom?
The Disney sites and blogs have been blowing up the past 24 hours about Mike Wazowski's Thursday announcement at WDW's Epcot! (If you haven't seen the video of this, you really should!) Anyway, if you haven't already heard, Thursday's magical moment was the kick-off for Disney's A Monstrous Summer Event which is to celebrate the opening of Monsters Inc. 2 and the summer season!
But what really has folks talking is the all-nighter Mike talked about. Yes, on May 24th, Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom will be open for a full 24 hours, just like last year's One More Disney Day Leap Year Event!
This event is, of course, awesome! Getting a full 24 hours out of one ticket, riding your favorite attraction at 4 a.m., walking through Cinderella Castle at midnight, or having a Dole Whip for breakfast sounds like a good time to me! Plus, you now totally have an excuse for eating as much sugar as possible because you need to stay awake!
If you plan on visiting the Magic Kingdom on this day, we have a few tips for you! While this event has only happened once before, we have drawn upon the events and trends of last year, as well as what we know, and have hopefully compiled some tips to help you out!
Ready? Here we go!
1.) Strategize Your Arrival and Departure-Unless you want to spend the full 24 hours in the park, we suggest arriving at park opening and then leaving after lunch. The hours between lunch and dinner are usually the warmest and most crowded. Last year, the event really picked up speed at night with dance parties and other activities to keep your energy up; and we bet the lines for attractions will thin out after 2 a.m. or so. We suggest heading back during this time, or maybe even waiting until sometime after midnight so you can stay until 6 a.m. We highly suggest you take the afternoon hours to nap!
2.) Don't Expect To Do It All-Even though you have 24 hours, we still doubt that you will be able to do it all. Almost all special events pack in thick crowds; and last year, crowds were definitely an issue. We suggest focusing on the day's special activities or at more leisurely Magic Kingdom fun until the crowds begin to thin that night.
3. Take a Nap-Being away 24 hours is not for the faint at heart, especially if you're at WDW! To keep yourself from getting stressed or cranky, which is unfortunately easy when on vacation at times, get some rest! Relax! Catch a few winks! But where? Check out the Hall of Presidents! The comfy seats and dark, cool theater are perfect for a nap. Or how about the Tomorrowland Transit Authority? The movement, breeze, and moments of darkness may help lull you away for awhile. You could also chill at one of Disney's counter service spots, maybe the second floor of Columbia Harbor House?
4.) Wear Your Pajamas-Hey, the idea is to pull an all-nighter, right? So how about wearing your pajamas to the park? Some guests did this last year and we think it's a great idea, especially if you plan on coming back to the park later that night and it really helps add to the experience! We recommend skipping the slippers for some comfy shoes though, and maybe bringing your favorite stuffed animal or Disney plush with you?
5.) Take a Picture of the Clock-A great way to capture this late night experience is to take a picture of the clock on Main Street, particularly at a late hour or even at 6 a.m. the next morning. Consider the clock on Main Street USA, as you or your family can get in the photo too, or maybe even capturing the clock on Cinderella Castle?
6.) Know that Some Attractions May Close Early-Last year, during the One More Disney Day, some Magic Kingdom attractions closed several hours before 6 a.m. Disney should have a guide that tells what time which attractions close, so be sure to pay attention to this so you're not disappointed or surprised.
7.) Restaurant Closures-Also know that some Magic Kingdom Counter Service restaurants close early too. A few who did stay open until 6 a.m. were Cosmic Rays and Casey's Corner. I also heard that they started offering breakfast around 3 a.m.!
8.) Try the Special Treats-Last year, the Magic Kingdom offered special treats themed around this event, such as special cupcakes! We encourage you to keep an eye out for these treats. If you spring for one, snap a picture of yourself with this unique sweet to mark your day during this special event! There may also be some merchandise for this all night event too. Last year, free mouse ears were handed out to guests and there were t-shirts and more for sale! Get them before they're gone!
9. Characters in PJs-We bet that Mickey and Minnie will be available for photos, as always, but this time dressed in pajamas! This is a rare photo opportunity and so cute! Even if the line is long, we recommend that you don't miss this. After all, you have 24 hours, right? Just like most special events at WDW, there are sure to be extra characters roaming around the parks. So if you are a character fan, keep your eyes open and your camera ready!
10. Caffeinate-This should be an obvious one. To keep yourself away and moving, caffeinate!
11.) Enjoy Moments You Don't Get to Have-Don't only focus on the rides and shows during this all-nighter, take time to enjoy things you wouldn't normally get to do. For example, snap a picture of Cinderella Castle in the early morning fog, have your favorite Disney snack at 4 a.m., have breakfast before the sun comes up, and just take advantage of the rare opportunities this event offers!
So are you going to spring for this all-night event as part of Disney's Monstrous Summer? If so, let us know!
As you have probably already heard, George Lucas' company, Lucasfilm, has been bought by Disney! Did anyone else feel the earth just shift?
But wait! There's more! Disney has announced that they will make a Star Wars VII for 2015 which will continue the storyline of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo, with Lucas offering some creative influence. What?!
So what does this mean for the future of the beloved Star Wars franchise? Is this good news, or bad? Does this mean we will be seeing more Star Wars at the Disney parks? While we don't have these answers yet, we can dream and even indulge in a little speculation; and so here's our take on this new development.
Films-Launching a new Star Wars film is shocking and a cause of concern for us classic Star Wars fans who were less than thrilled with three recent prequels; but never before has a Star Wars film been made without direct control from George Lucas himself. So is this good, or not? We don't know.
We're also concerned about how they will carry on the films involving the original cast of characters. Will they use the same cast? If not, it will take a miracle to be a success; but then again, the original cast hasn't filmed a Star Wars film since the eighties. So what will Disney do?
Parks-Is more Star Wars heading to the parks? We have heard rumors for awhile about expanding the Star Wars corner of Hollywood Studios, including a possible Mos Eisley Cantina restaurant for guests. That would definitely be cool! It would also be great to have Star Wars characters around the parks more often, or maybe replace that Pixar Parade with a permanent Star Wars parade? Yeah, no matter how you look at this possibility, it looks good!
Marketing-The Star Wars merchandise at Tatooine Traders at Hollywood Studios is awesome, but could more be on the way now? After all, as we have already heard on the internet, Princess Leia is now a Disney Princess and Darth Vader now a Disney villain!
So what will be the future of Luca's company? How will the Star Wars franchise fair under Mickey and Bob Iger? Only time will tell; but we can only hope (no pun intended) that the Disney pixie dust will put a little of the old magic back into the Star Wars universe to satisfy old fans and entice the new for the future.

Big news here at A Glass Slipper Vacation! We're going to Walt Disney World in 5 Days! My Disney Bro and I were surprised this afternoon when our Disney parents announced they had booked us a trip nearly a month ago and wanted to surprise us!
We fly out Tuesday evening and will be staying at Pop Century for 7 nights! We also have have a 6 day Park Hopper, the Water Park option, and the Disney Dining Plan. We haven't had the water park option in a long time; and since we're visiting in June, while we usually visit in the fall, we plan to visit both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach during our trip to beat the steamy temperatures. As a big Star Wars fan, I'm also thrilled to be catching the final Star Wars Weekend of the year!
We also have dining reservations at some old favorites and some new places. Some of our traditional eating spots that we have ADRs (advance dining reservations) for are Le Cellier, Liberty Tree Tavern, Akershus, Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater, and Mama Melroses. Now, for some new dining experiences, we have booked Les Chefs de France, 'Ohana, Kona Cafe, and Artist Point! We think we will have some new favorites after this trip!
Stay tuned to A Glass Slipper Vacation over the next few days as we prepare for our trip. We will be sure to share with you our last minute preparations, packing tips, and more!
(Note: After gaining more information on this deal, we have corrected this post)
If you are looking for a way to save money for your Disney vacation, look no further!
The news is out that Sam's Club has $100 Disney Gift Cards for $98.87. There is also a perk! With each $100 card purchased, a $10 Disney store gift card is included. So you will receive $110 for $98.87!
Now there is even better news! If you have a Disney Rewards Visa, you can purchase these cards and receive a $1 for every $100 you spend purchasing them.
Now Sam's Club doesn't take Visa as a form of payment, but Walmart does. So...go to Walmart and have a gift card loaded with the amount of Disney Cards you want to purchase at Sam's; and buy that card with your Disney Visa. This way, you will receive 2 rewards: bonus gift cards and Disney Visa rewards.
For example, if you spend $2400 in these cards, you will receive 24 Disney Visa Reward dollars; and you will only pay $2,372.88 for $2400. Also, with the purchase of 24 cards, with $10 bonuses for each, you will gain $240 free to spend at disneystore.com!
We checked with Disney reservations and they will take multiple gift cards for booking a reservation. They said they do it frequently.
However, you need to be aware of the bonus cards restrictions. They can only be used at disneystore.com, not even at the World of Disney at Disney World's Downtown Disney. Regardless, this is still a great deal because you are given free money to spend on Disney merchandise.
So if you are interested in working this offer to your advantage, check at your local Sam's Club for this great deal!
We have recently heard news from a variety of reliable, Disney web sources that Disney will be making an announcement tomorrow about the Disney Cruise Line, most likely in regards to the newest Disney ship, the Disney Fantasy, that is going in the water next year. Also, several sites that said that Disney is supposed to be making another announcement this Friday; and Cast Members who work the phones have been offered overtime. Many, including ourselves, our hoping that the announcement may be free dining! We had previously posted news that some individuals have been receiving a free dining plan through pin codes. Perhaps Disney is making it public? We hope so!
