This resort has one of the best lobbies of all the resorts on Disney property with huge, teepee chandeliers, totem poles, log columns and beams, and a fireplace. It is a perfect mixture of the rugged outdoors and majestic luxury.
There are two restaurants and a cafeteria located here. Whispering Canyon Cafe is located in the lobby, across from check-in, and serves up hearty portions and hilarious service. Towards the back of the lobby, you will find Artist Point, a signature restaurant, that offers fine dining with a refined, wilderness atmosphere. The cafeteria location, known as Roaring Forks, can be found down the hall and provides guests with quick meals, breakfast items, drinks, sweets, and snacks, as well as a seating area.
The lobby boasts a variety of balconies and details, as well as plentiful seating, patterned rugs, and little exhibits showcasing Native American artifacts. You will also find a giftshop here, marked with a carved totem pole of Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and a bear! The shop is one of our favorites, selling a variety of rare, resort themed merchandise and the usual Disney souvenirs. Finally, in the lobby you will find a footbridge over a small creek running through a small part of the lobby and under the huge windows. The creek comes from a spring that bubbles up in the lobby! The water flows under the bridge, under the windows, and then outside into the swimming pool!
The rooms are not as large as in other deluxe resorts; but for us, the resort itself makes up for it. There is also a bunk bed option for some rooms if traveling with kids.
Wilderness Lodge's pool is good, but not as good as some deluxe resorts; however, the water flowing from the lobby into the pool and the rock water slide definitely help. Also, if you plan to visit a water park, having one of the best pools may not be as much of a priority. Also, not far from the pool is a geyser which shoots water up into the air throughout the day!
Since this resort sets on the water, there is a sandy white beach. There is also water craft transportation that takes you to Fort Wilderness and the Magic Kingdom, providing guests a relaxing trip and picturesque views of the lake, other resorts, and the park.
Be sure to consider this resort for your trip to Disney World. It is a beautiful resort and tends to run cheaper than other deluxes. Staying here is truly an experience that only makes your trip more magical and memorable!
